TEHRAN - On Friday, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Tehran Noor Muhammad Jadmani hoisted his country’s national flag at a function in his residence on the occasion of Pakistan Independence Day.

August 14th, observed as a national holiday in Pakistan, marks the anniversary of Pakistan Independence Day and celebrates the country’s sovereignty from the British rule which ended 69 years ago.
After raising the flag, Ambassador Jadmani made a speech among a crowd of Pakistani guests and Iranian media personnel saying the creation of Pakistan as a nation enabled the Muslims of South Asia to lead their lives according to their religious, social, political and cultural aspirations.
The Pakistani diplomat then went on to say that his country has faced multiple challenges ever since it declared independence, although it has overcome some of the issues such as having a democratic and civilized society and tolerating different views.
On the issue of dealing with neighbors, the ambassador said, “We have aimed at staying in peaceful coexistence with our neighbors, availing opportunities for mutual growth and prosperity.”
On fight against terrorism, Jadmani said Pakistan has conducted an extensive counter-terrorism operation, namely Zarb e Azb, to root out militant extremism.
Although the operation has cost the nation lives and resources, it has far-reaching implications not only for the future of Pakistan but for the entire region, he predicted.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ambassador Jadmani referred to “a new phase of bilateral relations” with Iran that was initiated by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Tehran in 2014.
The prime minister’s visit, he said, deepened mutual understanding between the two governments and led to commitment to pursue “our economic partnership”.
Ever since the visit, he added, there has been multi-faceted interaction between the two countries.
The diplomat then pointed to sanctions on Iran, saying with the successful negotiations for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPA), the obstacles are likely to be removed soon.
He concluded his talks by pleading Allah to bless the people of Iran and Pakistan with peace and prosperity.
“Pakistan-Iran friendship zindabad,” he said.
